Grace Duffy was born on 2nd of March 1872. She emigrated by boat on the SS Furnessia to Philadelphia when she was 21 years of age. She emigrated to her aunt Margaret McFadden (nee Grant)
In Oct 1904 she entered the Daughters of Charity community Mt Hope Retreat, Baltimore. She took the habit and the name Mary Grace in April 29th 1905 and took her vows for the first time in 1909. She served in the mission of St Vincent’s hospital in Bridgeport, Connecticut from 1905 till 1945. She was then transferred to provincial house in Emmitsburg, Maryland and then to the villa St Michael’s retirement home in Baltimore 1952.
She died at Villa St Michael’s on December 10th, 1966 at the age of 94. She spent 66 years in the community. She was initially buried in Baltimore but when the Daughters of Charity sold the property including the cemetery in 1972, her remains were transferred and reinterred at the sacred heart cemetery Emmisburg, Maryland.
